Bastion Bloom
Plant thorny sprouts, puffcaps, frost lilies and sunbursts to defend your garden cottage from twelve maps of marching bugs.
About Bastion Bloom
Bastion Bloom is a cozy tower defense game you play right in your browser. A little cottage sits at the end of a winding dirt trail, and every few seconds another line of hungry bugs crawls out of its burrow and heads straight for the front door. Your job is to stop them. You do it with a garden: plant towers on the grass beside the trail, watch them pick off ants, beetles and wasps as they march past, and spend the gold each squashed bug drops on more towers and bigger upgrades. Let too many bugs reach the cottage and you lose the map.
There are four towers to plant, and each one plays a different role. The Thorn Sprout fires quick thorns at a single bug and can hit flyers, which makes it the dependable backbone of every defence. The Puffcap lobs spore bombs that burst on the trail and damage a whole crowd at once, but it cannot reach anything in the air. The Frost Lily sends out chilly pulses that slow every bug in range and chip away at their health, buying your other towers more time. The Sunburst is slow to charge, yet its sunbolts hit hard and ignore armour, so it is the answer to beetles and bosses.
Every tower can be upgraded twice, and at the third upgrade you choose one of two specializations, which changes how it fights. A Thorn Sprout can become a Bramble Volley that fires at three bugs at once, or a Longthorn sniper with huge range, armour-piercing thorns and critical hits. A Puffcap can leave toxic clouds that poison bugs through their armour, or grow into a Giant Puffball whose blasts can stun. A Frost Lily can turn into a Glacier that freezes bugs solid, or a Shiver lily that makes every chilled bug take 30% more damage from everything else. A Sunburst can become a Solar Lance that burns every bug along a line, or a Chain Bloom whose bolts leap to four more bugs nearby. You can also choose what each tower aims at: the bug closest to the cottage, the last in line, the strongest or the closest.
The bugs get trickier as you go. Ants march in long lines, grasshoppers sprint past slow defences, and armoured beetles shrug off thorns and spores. Wasps fly over the trail where Puffcaps cannot reach them. Ladybugs heal the bugs around them, Aphid Mothers burst into three quick aphids when you pop them, and snails carry so much health, and such thick shells, that sunbolts and frost barely scratch them. Each world ends with a boss: the Queen Ant lays ants as she walks, the armoured Stag King charges in bursts, and the Hornet Empress flies over everything and calls in wasps.
The campaign has twelve hand-made maps across three worlds: the sunny Meadow, the Marsh with its ponds and forking trails, and the autumn Orchard. Later maps have two or even three trails that merge on their way to the cottage, so you have to decide where to spread your towers and where to stack them. Every map is a full session of eight to eighteen waves, with a short break between waves to plan your next move. A preview shows which bugs are coming next, and if you are confident you can call the next wave early for bonus gold.
Winning a map earns up to three stars, depending on how many lives you keep. Spend stars in the Garden Almanac on permanent upgrades that apply to every map: more starting gold, extra lives, sharper thorns, wider spore blasts, longer frost, brighter sunbursts, cheaper seeds and better refunds when you sell. You can reset the Almanac at any time for free and try a different mix. Replaying earlier maps for three stars is the best way to power up for the tougher gardens ahead.
Bastion Bloom is free to play, needs no download or account, and runs on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone held upright the garden turns sideways so the whole map fits the screen. Your stars and Almanac upgrades are saved automatically in your browser, and you can speed the game up to double speed whenever a wave feels slow.

Tips and strategy
- Build where the trail bends. A tower on the inside of a corner covers two stretches of trail at once.
- Mix your towers. Puffcaps can't hit wasps, and thorns and spores do half damage to armoured beetles, so add Sunbursts and keep a few Thorn Sprouts.
- Put Frost Lilies just before your strongest towers so slowed bugs spend longer in their range. The Shiver specialization makes every tower around it hit harder.
- Set one or two thorn towers to Strongest when ladybugs and Aphid Mothers show up, and pop the healers first.
- Upgrading is usually better value than another level-1 tower once you have a solid line, and specializations are the biggest jump of all.
- Calling waves early pays more gold the earlier you call, but only do it when your towers are clearing the trail with room to spare.
Frequently asked questions
Is Bastion Bloom free to play?
Yes. It runs in your browser for free, with no download and no account.
How do I get three stars?
Win the map with at least 18 of your 20 lives left (or within two of your maximum if you bought Hardy Hedge). Keeping half your lives earns two stars, and any win earns one.
What are stars for?
Stars are spent in the Garden Almanac on permanent upgrades such as extra starting gold, more lives and stronger towers. You can reset the Almanac for free at any time and spend them differently.
Which tower should I build against flying bugs?
Thorn Sprouts, Frost Lilies and Sunbursts can all hit flyers. Puffcaps can't, so never rely on them alone when wasps or the Hornet Empress are coming.
Is my progress saved?
Your stars and Almanac upgrades are saved automatically in your browser on this device after every map. A map in progress isn't saved, so finish it before closing the tab.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Bastion Bloom works with touch and mouse. On a phone held upright the map rotates so the whole garden fits the screen.
